A Chip of Traffic Safety Equipments Development

Traffic cones were created firstly by Charles P. Rudebaker in 1914 with concrete as main raw material. Because of their weights and costliness, the use of thermoplastic and rubber was introduced years ago. The extra benefit is availability to produce cones with attractive and bright colours. These cones are very familiar with the pedestrians or drivers since they are widely used as traffic control equipment for vehicles and pedestrians. Meanwhile, the cones become a kind of “road icon” in urban life. We can find hundreds logos, symbol, monument, movies, illustration, art, which are inspired by these cones. One of them is giant traffic cone in Seattle, Washington.

Since traffic developed more complex and, there were many road construction projects performed. The using of cones together with traffic barricade is common met. The barricade itself originally was made from wood, but nowadays the plastics, composite materials, and metals alloy replace the use of wood. In order to make the barricade more eye-catching and effectively warn the drivers, workers sometimes place flasher light on it. It is very useful in the night or bad weather.

The workers sometimes hold warning flags to direct the vehicles in front of the barricade. The originally textile flag itself was developed and can be used outside in every weather.
